Which of these household appliances are the most energy-efficient?
A new report by energy expert Efraim Levy says the most efficient appliance is the household appliance with the most air-flow and the least air-cooling.
The report, commissioned by the European Union’s energy watchdog, also found that the best home insulation is found in the most-efficient household appliances.
Efrain Levy, energy analyst at IHS Global Insight, said: “The energy efficiency of appliances has increased significantly over the last few years, and this was evident in the EU’s ETS survey, which showed a significant increase in the share of households with energy-efficiency measures and energy-saving appliances.”
The ETS report also found an increasing trend in the number of appliances with smart thermostats and LED lights, which have been recommended by many manufacturers in the last year.
But Efran Levy, head of Efrem Levy, said there was still a long way to go before these devices will become standardised across the European market.
“There is still much work to be done in order to standardise smart home devices, especially with regards to how to measure energy efficiency,” he said.
“In order to improve on the ETS results, IHS is looking at the efficiency of each appliance individually, and is considering whether to add these measures to the European ETS.”
Efron Levy, director of Energiewende, a Berlin-based energy consultancy, said the ETA survey did not show a large number of energy-conserving appliances.
“We would have thought that we would have found the top appliances in terms of energy efficiency, but the Eta survey shows a significant gap between the best and the worst,” he told Al Jazeera.
“Many of these appliances have the lowest energy efficiency.”
Energy-saving measures and LED lighting have been widely recommended by manufacturers.
Erekin Levy, chief technology officer of Efi-Sci, a German energy-use consultancy, says energy-friendly appliances such as electric motors and dishwashers should be installed at home and around the home in order for them to save energy.
“Energy-efficient appliances can also be installed in the kitchen, in the living room, in outdoor areas and even in your living room.
“If an appliance has an energy-smart feature, it will also help reduce the amount you consume from that appliance, and reduce the energy you use from your energy bills. “
They can help reduce energy use by reducing the amount of energy they consume, and therefore save energy,” he added.
Erekinsci’s Efi Sci report found that some appliances in the study have an ETA of 7.0, while others are ETA 7.2, which means they have an average efficiency of 9.4 per cent. “
The best appliances should not have an energy smart feature.”
Erekinsci’s Efi Sci report found that some appliances in the study have an ETA of 7.0, while others are ETA 7.2, which means they have an average efficiency of 9.4 per cent.
“For the most part, EFi-S, Efi and Efi Sol have a score of 9 or 10, while some have an efficiency score of 6.5 to 7.3, with some having scores of 7,” Efrekinsi said.
This means that most of the best-selling energy-saver appliances have an overall ETA rating of 7 or 8, but that is only the most well-known appliances.
He added that some energy-wasting appliances like the oven and water heater are also considered the best, as they are generally the cheapest to maintain.
“Erekinsici have found that a number of these energy-conscious appliances have a rating of 9 to 10.
This can be compared to other brands like the Nest thermostat,” he explained.
“However, for some appliances, the ETI rating is usually 5 or 6, which is still higher than the average.”
“Efi-sci has also discovered that appliances with EFI sol can have a higher ETA than some others, which can be a problem for some consumers, because they are more energy-intensive than others,” he continued.
Efi Levies’ EfiSci report also reveals that appliances such a dishwasher, water heater and electric motors are the least energy-consuming appliances, while appliances such an oven and electric kettle are the energy-using ones.
“Most of the energy efficient appliances can save a lot of energy,” Efi Levy said.
He also said that the most important thing to look out for is the overall energy consumption of the appliance, not just the energy consumption per unit.
“Some appliances are more efficient than others, and that can help you determine the efficiency,” Efin Levy said, noting that appliances that consume the most electricity can be energy-hungry.
With that in mind, look for appliances that have a low ETA and use a lot less energy
